Fast breathing, tears streaming, racing thoughts, an overwhelming feeling of sadness. This is what I face weekly. I was diagnosed with depression when I was in high school (10+ years ago). It has gotten so much worse since my best friend, my mother, passed away. Even though she didn’t understand what I was going through, she was always there for me. She was the most caring, beautiful, accepting person I have ever know. I reach out to her in my happiest and my saddest moments.

I have had good days and really bad days. It has affected my relationships. I am lucky enough to have a partner, who is my biggest cheerleader and who is there when the walls are closing in on me and my emotional abuse from my ex-sneaks up and takes control like I am reenacting dark parts of my life I would like to forget. I have been on numerous medications and I am still figuring out something that will work for me. I hope this story helps more people know that they are not alone and that we have to rise above depression.
