I would like to share my story about getting diagnosed with depression. I was diagnosed with severe depression when I was 15 years old. I am now 28 years old. I started feeling strange, not at all as I used to feel. I wanted to be alone most of the time. Not only that, I would get bad chest pain from time to time and there was no reason at all to feel a pain like that. I would start thinking negative and feel like I would like to give up everything. Not many things interested me. That happened frequently.

I started wishing to die and even thinking that it was a mistake that I was born.

I was diagnosed by a counselor. I was scared and I didn’t want to admit that I have a mental illness such as depression. Throughout the years I learned how to cope with my depression and what to do when I start feeling that another depression episode is coming. I wanted to learn by myself how to cope with it. When I feel that is going to get worse, I talk to someone or cry. I always think of my kids and that they need me here when that happens. I go out and catch some air. Depression is horrible but you can fight it with your own strength.
